كتاب الآدابThe Book of Manners
(الْمُبَادِرُ بِالسَّلَامِ أَقْرَبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ)(The one who initiates the greeting is closer to Allah)
Hadith 4646

وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِاللَّهِ مَنْ بَدَأَ السَّلَام» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد وَالتِّرْمِذِيّ وَأَبُو دَاوُد
Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who initiates the greeting of peace is closest to Allah." Sahih, narrated by Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi, and Abu Dawood.
