Fiqh of the Hadith: ➊ One should seek knowledge and ask for solutions to religious matters only from scholars who are of sound creed and are trustworthy and truthful. ➋ The foundation of religion is based on chains of transmission (isnads); therefore, any statement without a chain is to be rejected. ➌ One should avoid the people of innovation (ahl al-bid‘ah). ➍ Reasoning from the statements of the Companions and Successors (athar) is permissible and even commendable. ➎ The aforementioned athar is found in the introduction to Sahih Muslim, and its chain of transmission up to Imam Muhammad ibn Sirin rahimahullah is authentic. ➏ One should always be mindful of the upbringing and education of one’s dependents and the general public.
