In Musnad Ahmad [الموسوعة الحديثيه 181/29، 182ح 17634] and elsewhere, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Nawwas bin Sam'an al-Ansari radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
"Allah has given the example of the straight path (sirat al-mustaqim): on both sides of the path are two walls, in which there are open doors, and on every door a curtain is hanging. At every door, there is a caller saying: O people! All of you enter the path and do not turn towards the crooked paths. Whenever anyone wishes to lift the curtain from any of these doors, a caller from above the path says: Woe to you! Do not open it; if you open it, you will enter it. The path is Islam, the walls are Allah's boundaries, and the open doors are the things Allah has forbidden. The caller on the path is the Qur'an, and the caller from above the path is Allah's admonition (wa'izh) which is in the heart of every Muslim." The chain of this hadith is hasan, and with supporting narrations it is sahih. Al-Hakim [73/1] declared it sahih according to the conditions of Muslim.
