Ibn Mas'ud reported God’s messenger as saying, “There was no prophet whom God raised up among his people before me who did not have from among his people apostles and companions who held to his sunna and followed what he commanded; then they were succeeded by people who said what they did not practise and did things they were not commanded to do. So he who strives against them with his hand is a believer, he who strives against them with his tongue is a believer, and he who strives against them with his heart is a believer. Beyond that there is not so much faith as a grain of mustard seed.” Muslim transmitted it.

Hadith Takhrij´تحقيق و تخريج: محدث العصر حافظ زبير على زئي رحمه الله` «رواه مسلم (80/ 50)»
Fiqh al-Hadith: ➊ It is obligatory to act upon the commands of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. ➋ Jihad is not limited to fighting; rather, it has many forms, such as inviting to the truth, refuting the people of innovation (ahl al-bid‘ah) and the misguided—these are also forms of jihad. ➌ It is necessary to avoid innovations (bid‘at). ➍ Faith (iman) has many levels; sometimes it increases, and sometimes it remains as little as a mustard seed. ➎ The most sincere companion who supports to the utmost of his ability is called a Hawari. ➏ Those who do not act upon the Qur’an and Hadith are misguided. ➐ Hating the disbelievers (kuffar), polytheists (mushrikin), and innovators (mubtadi‘in) is a part of faith (iman). ➑ An authentic hadith (sahih hadith) is a legal proof (shar‘i hujjah). ➒ Hypocrisy (nifaq) and double-dealing are forbidden (haram). ➓ It is not permissible to act upon such matters in religion for which there is no evidence in the Shari‘ah; rather, by doing so, nothing will be achieved except disgrace and failure.

Ubayd Allah bin Sa’īd narrated to me, Abd ur-Rahman- meaning Ibn Mahdī- narrated to us, Hammād bin Zayd narrated to us, on authority of Ibn Awn, he said, Ibrāhīm said to us: ‘Beware of al-Mughīrah bin Sa’īd and Abū Abd ar-Rahīm for they are both liars’.

Hadith Commentary:Benefits and Issues: Mughira was a Kufan, a Rafidi, and a liar. He had claimed prophethood, and he would always fabricate lies against the Ahl al-Bayt. Abu Abd al-Rahim Shaqiq was also a Kufan, a Khariji, a storyteller, and weak (in narration).
