Abud Darda' reported God’s messenger as saying, “God created Adam when He created him and struck his right shoulder and brought forth his offspring white like small ants. And he struck his left shoulder and brought forth his offspring black as though they were charcoal. Then He said to the party on his right side, ‘To paradise, and I do not care’ and He said to the party in his left shoulder, ‘To hell, and I do not care’.” Ahmad transmitted it.

Authentication of the Hadith: The chain of narration for this report is hasan li-dhatih (sound in itself). ◄ Abu al-Rabi‘ Sulayman ibn ‘Ubaydah al-Sulami is considered trustworthy (thiqah) by the majority of hadith scholars; therefore, according to the preferred opinion, he is hasan al-hadith (a sound narrator). The criticism made by the researcher(s) of al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah [481/45] regarding the aforementioned Abu al-Rabi‘ is incorrect. Haytham ibn Kharijah is also trustworthy (thiqah) and truthful (saduq), and the rest of the chain is sahih li-dhatih (authentic in itself).
Jurisprudence of the Hadith: ➊ The decree of destiny (qadar) was decided before the creation of human beings. ➋ Nothing is outside the knowledge and power of Allah; rather, His knowledge and power encompass everything. ➌ From this hadith and other ahadith, the importance of the right side becomes clear.
