Hadith 70

يٰأيها الناس قد أظلكم شهر عظيم ، شهر فيه ليلة خير من ألف شهر ، جعل الله صيامه فريضة وقيام ليلة تطوعا ، من تقرب فيه بخصلة من الخير كان كمن أدي فريضة فيما سواه ومن أدي فيه فريضة كان كمن أدي سبعين فريضة فيما سواه ، وهو شهر الصبر والصبر ثوابه الجنة ، وشهر المواساة ، وشهر يزاد فيه فى رزق المؤمن ومن فطر فيه صائما كان مغفرة لذنوبه وعتق رقبته من النار وكان له مثل أجره من غير أن ينقض من أجره شئي ، قلنا يا رسول الله ! ليس كلنا نجد ما نفطر به الصائم ، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : يعطي الله هذا الثواب من فطر صائما على مذقة لبن أو تمرة أو شربة من ماء ، ومن أشبع صائما سقاه الله من حوضي شربة لا يظمأ حتي يدخل الجنة ، وهو شهر أوله رحمة ، و أوسطه مغفرة و آخره عتق من النار ومن خفف عن مملوكه فيه غفرالله له و اعتقه من النار
“O people! Indeed, a great month has cast its shadow over you, a month in which there is a night that is better than a thousand months (of worship). Allah Almighty has made its fasting obligatory and its night prayer (i.e., Tarawih) voluntary. Whoever does any good deed in this month will be like the one who performed a compulsory act in any other month, and whoever performs a compulsory act in it will be like the one who performed seventy compulsory acts in any other month. It is the month of patience, and the reward for patience is Paradise. It is the month of sympathy, and it is a month in which the sustenance of the believer is increased. Whoever provides iftar to a fasting person in it, his sins will be forgiven, his neck will be freed from Hellfire, and he will receive a reward equal to that of the fasting person (whom he fed) without any decrease in the fasting person’s reward.
We said: O Messenger of Allah! Not all of us have the means to provide iftar to a fasting person. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will grant this reward to the one who gives a fasting person a sip of milk, a date, or a sip of water to break his fast, and whoever gives a fasting person a full meal so that he is satisfied, Allah Almighty will give him to drink from my cistern, after which he will never feel thirst until he enters Paradise.
It is a month whose beginning is mercy, whose middle is forgiveness, and whose end is freedom from Hellfire. And whoever eases the burden on his subordinate (slave or servant) in this month, Allah Almighty will forgive him and free him from the fire of Hell.”
We said: O Messenger of Allah! Not all of us have the means to provide iftar to a fasting person.
