Hadith 1463

فضل العالم على العابد سبعين درجة . . . وذلك ان الشيطان يضع البدعة للناس فيعرفها العالم فينهي عنها . . .
"The superiority of a scholar over a worshipper is seventy degrees... and the reason for this is that when Satan invents an innovation for the people, the scholar recognizes it and prevents (the people) from it (whereas the worshipper remains unaware of it)."
