It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying down in my house when suddenly he (peace and blessings be upon him) started up and sat (upright) and began to recite "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (We belong to Allah and to Him we return)." I said: May my father and mother be ransomed for you! What is the matter; why are you reciting the istirja' (Inna lillahi)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Because of an army of my Ummah that will come from the direction of Syria, heading for the House (of Allah), (to seize) a man who will be opposing and resisting them, until, when they reach (the place of) al-Bayda' near Dhu al-Hulayfah, they will be swallowed up by the earth, while their intentions and circumstances differ." I said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be ransomed for you, how will they all be swallowed up together when their intentions and purposes differ? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Yes! But) among them will be some who were brought under compulsion, among them will be some who were brought under compulsion, among them will be some who were brought under compulsion (so on the Day of Resurrection all will be raised according to their intentions)."
Abu Ya'la (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it, and its chain contains Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an, who is hasan al-hadith (fair in hadith), though there is some weakness in him.
