بَابٌ في الصَّلاَةِ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْقِبْلَةِ
Chapter: Prayer for the people of the Qiblah
Hadith 1523
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ بَكْرُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ ، جَاءَ ابْنُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَعْطِنِي قَمِيصَكَ أُكَفِّنْهُ فِيهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " آذِنُونِي بِهِ " ، فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ : مَا ذَاكَ لَكَ ، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَا بَيْنَ خِيَرَتَيْنِ ، اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ ، أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا وَلا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ سورة التوبة آية 84 .
´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:` “When ‘Abdullah bin Ubayy died, his son came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, give me your shirt so that I may shroud him in it.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Notify me when he is ready (i.e., when he has been washed and shrouded).’ When the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to offer the funeral prayer for him: ‘You should not do that.’ The Prophet (ﷺ) offered the funeral prayer for him, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: ‘I have been given two choices: “...ask forgiveness for them (hypocrites) or ask not forgiveness for them...’” [9:80] Then Allah revealed: ‘And never pray (the funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave.’” [9:84]
Hadith 1524
حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، وَسَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : مَاتَ رَأْسُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، وَأَوْصَى أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَنْ يُكَفِّنَهُ فِي قَمِيصِهِ ، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَكَفَّنَهُ فِي قَمِيصِهِ ، وَقَامَ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا وَلا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ سورة التوبة آية 84 .
´It was narrated that Jabir said:` “The leader of the hypocrites in Al- Madinah died, and left instructions that the Prophet (ﷺ) should offer the funeral prayer for him and shroud him in his shirt. He offered the funeral prayer for him and shrouded him in his shirt, and stood by his grave. Then Allah revealed the words: ‘And never pray (the funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave.” [9:84]
Hadith 1525
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ السُّلَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ نَبْهَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ يَقْظَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلُّوا عَلَى كُلِّ مَيِّتٍ ، وَجَاهِدُوا مَعَ كُلِّ أَمِيرٍ " .
´It was narrated from Wathilah bin Asqa’ that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` ‘Offer prayer for everyone who dies, and strive in Jihad under every chief.”
Hadith 1526
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ " أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جُرِحَ فَآذَتْهُ الْجِرَاحَةُ ، فَدَبَّ إِلَى مَشَاقِصَهِ ، فَذَبَحَ بِهَا نَفْسَهُ ، فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ أَدَبًا مِنْهُ .
It was narrated from Jabir bin Samurah that a man from among the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) was wounded, and the wound caused him a great deal of pain. He went and took a spearhead, and slaughtered himself with it. The Prophet (ﷺ) did not offer the funeral prayer for him, and that was as an admonition for others.
