بَابُ : مَا جَاءَ فِي شُهُودِ الْجَنَائِزِ
Chapter: What was narrated concerning attending funerals
Hadith 1477
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَهِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَسْرِعُوا بِالْجِنَازَةِ ، فَإِنْ تَكُنْ صَالِحَةً فَخَيْرٌ تُقَدِّمُونَهَا إِلَيْهِ ، وَإِنْ تَكُنْ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَشَرٌّ تَضَعُونَهُ عَنْ رِقَابِكُمْ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` ‘Hasten with the funeral (procession), for if the person was righteous then you are advancing him towards good, and if he was otherwise then it is evil which you are taking off of your necks.”
Hadith 1478
حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ نِسْطَاسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ : " مَنِ اتَّبَعَ جِنَازَةً ، فَلْيَحْمِلْ بِجَوَانِبِ السَّرِيرِ كُلِّهَا ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ ، ثُمَّ إِنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَتَطَوَّعْ ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَدَعْ " .
´It was narrated that Abu ‘Ubaidah said:` “ ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud said: ‘Whoever follows a funeral (procession), let him carry all (four) corners of it (in turn), for that is Sunnah. Then if he wishes let him voluntarily carry it, and if he wishes let him not do so.’”
Hadith 1479
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَّهُ رَأَى جِنَازَةً يُسْرِعُونَ بِهَا " ، قَالَ : " لِتَكُنْ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّكِينَةُ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Musa that the Prophet (ﷺ) saw a funeral (procession) with which the people were rushing. He said:` “You should move with tranquility.”
Hadith 1480
حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، عَنْ رَاشِدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَاسًا رُكْبَانًا عَلَى دَوَابِّهِمْ فِي جِنَازَةٍ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا تَسْتَحْيُونَ أَنَّ مَلَائِكَةَ اللَّهِ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى أَقْدَامِهِمْ ، وَأَنْتُمْ رُكْبَانٌ " .
´It was narrated that Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw some people riding on their animals in a funeral (procession). He said: ‘Do you not feel ashamed that the angels of Allah are walking on foot and you are riding?’”
Hadith 1481
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ حَيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ حَيَّةَ ، سَمِعَ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الرَّاكِبُ خَلْفَ الْجِنَازَةِ ، وَالْمَاشِي مِنْهَا حَيْثُ شَاءَ " .
´Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah said:` “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘The rider should travel behind the funeral (procession) but the one who is walking may walk wherever he wants.”
