Hadith 971

´It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “There are three whose prayer do not rise more than a hand span above their heads: A man who leads people (in prayer) when they do not like him; a woman who has spent the night with her husband angry with her; and two brothers who have severed contact with one another.”

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

➊ The rising of the prayer towards the sky is a sign of its acceptance. And its not rising indicates non-acceptance. The meaning is that the prayers of such people are not accepted.

➋ There are some sins due to which certain specific good deeds are wasted. For example, the sin mentioned in this hadith becomes a cause for the loss of prayer.

➌ It is necessary for a woman not to be negligent in keeping her husband pleased, especially not to refuse to fulfill the obligatory duty of conjugal relations, except if there is a reasonable Shar‘i (Islamic legal) excuse. In such a case, the husband should be considerate of her compulsion.

➍ Just as it is necessary for a woman to fulfill the man’s sexual desire, similarly, it is also obligatory for the man to consider the woman’s desire and fulfill her sexual right. In the hadith, only the woman is mentioned because, generally, the expression of discomfort or refusal comes from the woman’s side, not from the man’s.
