´Busr bin Sa’eed said:` “They sent me to Zaid bin Khalid to ask him about passing in front of one who is performing prayer. He told me that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Waiting for forty is better than passing in front of one who is performing prayer.’” (One of the narrators) Sufyan said: "I do not know if he meant forty years, months, days, or hours."

Benefits and Issues:
➊
Passing in front of someone performing prayer (salah) is such a grave sin that, in order to avoid it, one should be willing to wait for a long period if necessary.
➋
The noble hadith scholars (muhaddithin) exercised such caution in narrating hadith that if there was any doubt regarding a word, they would clarify it. Therefore, it is obligatory to act upon a hadith that is narrated with a reliable chain of transmission. However, since in a weak (da'if) hadith the attribution to the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is not certain, it is not acted upon.
