Hadith 94

´It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:` "The Messenger of Allah said: 'The wealth of none of you has benefited me as much as the wealth of Abu Bakr.'" Abu Bakr wept and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I and my wealth are only for you, O Messenger of Allah.'"

Commentary:
(1)
Our esteemed researcher has declared this narration weak in terms of its chain of transmission; however, Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, considering the collective chains, has declared this narration authentic.
For details, see: (al-Silsilah al-Sahihah, Hadith: 2718)

(2)
Nearness to Allah is attained through righteous deeds.
The more abundant the good deeds, the higher the rank will be.

(3)
The faith (iman) of the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum was superior and more complete than that of those who came after them; therefore, their sincerity in deeds was also greater. Thus, even their apparently minor deeds were considered superior to the apparently great deeds of those who came after.
Especially, the circumstances in which these noble individuals made financial sacrifices were not faced by later Muslims; for this reason, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
(LA TASUBBU ASHABI, FALAW ANNA AHADAKUM ANFAQA MITHLA UHUDIN DHABAN MA BALAGHA MUDDA AHADIHIM WALA NASIFAHU) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Virtues of the Companions of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Chapter: The Saying of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam "If I were to take a close friend...", Hadith: 3673)
"Do not speak ill of my Companions. If any one of you were to spend gold equal to (the mountain of) Uhud, it would not reach even a mudd (a small measure) or half a mudd (in reward) of one of them."

(4)
In this, the sincerity of Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu and his love for the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is also evident, in that he did not boast about his deeds, but rather considered his wealth to be the wealth of the Noble Prophet alayhis salam himself, just as a poet has said:
"Do not consider it a favor that you serve the king; rather, recognize it as his favor that he has allowed you to serve him."

(5)
An imam, leader, or head should give importance to the services of his companions and acknowledge them, so that others may also develop enthusiasm for serving the religion, and so that they may duly respect these individuals and strive to follow in their footsteps.

(6)
Regarding a person about whom it is thought that praise will not give rise to pride or arrogance in his heart, it is permissible, for some wisdom, to praise him even in his presence.
In general circumstances, one should avoid praising someone in his presence.

(7)
In this hadith, only one aspect of the superiority of Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu (spending in the way of Allah) is mentioned, whereas there are many other aspects of his superiority which are mentioned in various ahadith.
