Hadith 923

´It was narrated that Thawban said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘No person should lead others in prayer, then supplicate only for himself and not for them. If he does that, he has betrayed them.’”

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
According to Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, this narration is weak.
The last two points mentioned in it are established from other hadiths as well. However, the first-mentioned point is questionable, because there are some supplications in prayer in which the singular form is used, and every person, including the imam, recites them in the singular form. Therefore, how can it be correct to describe this as a betrayal by the imam?

Commentary:
Note:
(In the chain of narration, "Yazid bin Shurayh" is weak, but for the phrase ((وَلَا يَقُومُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَهُوَ حَقِنٌ)) "And one should not stand for prayer while restraining stool or urine," there are authentic supporting narrations.)
