´It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to a man: ‘What do you say during your Salat?’ He said: ‘The Tashah-hud, then I ask Allah for Paradise, and I seek refuge with Him from Hell, but I do not understand what you and Mu’adh murmur (during Salat). He said: ‘Our murmuring revolves around the same things.’”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ (Dandana)
This refers to speech that is not clearly understood. Its meaning here is: “I do not know how to make long supplications like you. I only make a brief supplication.”
➋
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) approved of his supplication because it is concise and comprehensive. And the most important thing—in fact, the very purpose of acts of worship—is to attain Allah’s pleasure in the Hereafter.
➌ (Hawlahā nadandinu)
“We also hum around this.”
This means that the purpose of our lengthy supplications is also that we attain Allah’s pleasure in this world and the Hereafter, and remain safe from His wrath.
➍
Among the Sufis, it is well known that they say: “We act only out of love for Allah; we do not act out of desire for Paradise or fear of Hellfire.”
This thinking is not correct.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is the greatest and most beloved servant of Allah. No one can reach the level of awareness of Allah’s rights and the etiquettes of loving Allah that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) possessed.
Despite this, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) supplicated for Paradise and sought refuge from Hellfire.
Because Paradise is the name of Allah’s blessings, and in Paradise there will be the vision of Allah.
Therefore, turning away from Paradise is, in reality, turning away from nearness to Allah, which is contrary to divine love.
And being fearless of Hellfire is being fearless of Allah’s wrath, which is not the way of the people of faith.

Benefits and Issues:
➊
Before concluding the prayer with salam, any supplication for needs of this world or the Hereafter may be made during the tashahhud.
For this purpose, any appropriate supplication from the Qur'an or hadith may be recited.
➋
A teacher or scholar should remain informed about the circumstances of their students and followers, so that guidance can be provided according to their conditions and needs.
➌
If a follower sometimes adopts an informal tone, the scholar should not take offense.
➍
Attaining Paradise and protection from Hellfire is the most important objective of acts of worship; therefore, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stated that the ultimate purpose of our lengthy supplications is also this.
