´It was narrated that Ibn Mas’ud said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘When anyone of you bows, let him say in his bowing: “Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Azim (Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great)” three times; if he does that his bowing will be complete. And when anyone of you prostrates, let him say in his prostration, ‘Subhana Rabbiyal-A’la (Glory if to my Lord, the Most High)” three times; if he does that, his prostration will be complete, and that is the minimum.’”

1؎: Imam Tirmidhi said: It is recommended that a person should not recite the tasbih less than three times, and Ibn al-Mubarak said that it is recommended for the imam to say it five times, so that the followers (muqtadis) may say it three times. And it may be recited more than this as much as one wishes, provided that one is praying alone, because in congregation (jama‘ah) it is Sunnah to keep the prayer light, so that it does not cause hardship to the people.
´Ibn Mas'ud narrated that :` the Prophet said: "When one of you bows then says while he is bowing: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim) 'Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent' three times, then he has completed his bowing. And that is the least of it. And when he prostrates and says while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High' three times, then he has completed his prostrations, and that is the least of it.'"

1: However, this hadith is strengthened by the narrations of Abu Bakrah, Jubayr ibn Mut'im, and Abu Malik al-Ash'ari radi Allahu anhum. Although there is some criticism regarding each of these narrations, the collective chain of transmissions raises the matter to the level of being suitable for evidence.
Note: (Awn did not hear directly from Ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu, as the author himself has stated.)

Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: The Prophet ﷺ said: When one of you bows, he should say three time,: "Glory be to my mighty Lord, " and when he prostrates, he should say: "Glory be to my most high Lord" three times. This is the minimum number. Abu Dawud said: The chain of this tradition is broken. The narrator 'Awn did not see Abdullah (bin Masud).

886. Commentary: These tasbihat (words of glorification) are established from authentic ahadith. For example, the hadith of Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu [871۔ 874]. However, as for the minimum number being three, there is hardly any authentic hadith in this regard; all are weak. Nevertheless, due to the abundance of narrations, they gain some strength. See: [مرعاة المفاتيح حديث 886] Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, on the basis of multiple chains, has declared as authentic the practical hadith of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam—that is, the narration in which it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam actually said the tasbihat three times. As for those narrations in which there is a command to say the tasbihat three times, he has declared them weak. See: [صفة الصلاة ص 132۔ 135] Thus, it is as if, through the action of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the affirmation of saying the mentioned tasbihat three times is established.
