´It was narrated that Mus’ab bin Sa’d said:` “I bowed (in prayer) beside my father, and I put my hands between my knees. He struck my hand and said: ‘We used to do that, then we were commanded to put them on the knees.’”

Benefits and Issues:

The meaning of "tatbeeq" is that both hands are joined together, interlacing the fingers, and then the hands are placed between the thighs.
This method of bowing (ruku‘) has been abrogated.

It is not permissible to act upon a ruling that has been abrogated.

The correct method of bowing (ruku‘) is that the hands should be placed on the knees in such a way as to grasp the knees.
See: (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, The Book of Prayer, Chapter: What has been related about separating the hands from the sides in bowing, Hadith: 260)
