´It was narrated from Abu Zubair that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah would raise his hands when he began the prayer, and when he bowed, and when he raised (his head) from Ruku’ he would do likewise, and he said:` “I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) doing that.” (One of the narrators) said: “Ibrahim bin Tahman (one of the narrators) raised his hands to his ears.”

Fiqh al-Hadith
↰ Abu al-Zubayr Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadris, the Tabi‘i, has explicitly stated hearing (sama‘) in Musnad al-Siraj [92].
↰ Now reflect: After the passing of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), a Tabi‘i is witnessing Sayyiduna Jabir, a Companion of the Messenger, performing the raising of the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn), and the Companion of the Messenger is attributing this blessed action to the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). If the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had abandoned this practice, then why did the Companions continue to adhere to it after his passing?
Note:
◄ The trustworthy Imam, Abu Ja‘far Ahmad bin Ishaq bin Bahlul al-Baghdadi rahimahullah (d. 318), states:
“I used to follow the religion of the Iraqis, so I saw the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in a dream, and I saw that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was performing prayer. I saw that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would raise his hands (raf‘ al-yadayn) in the first takbir, when bowing (ruku‘), and when rising from bowing.” [سنن دار قطني: 292/1، ح: 1112، وسنده صحيح]
↰ Those whose religion is based on the dreams of elders—are they prepared to adopt this Prophetic action, which has come in the form of a dream to this trustworthy Imam?
