Hadith 853

´It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:` “The people stopped saying Amin, but when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said ‘Not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray’[1:7] he would say Amin, until the people in the first row could hear it, and the mosque would shake with it.

Fiqh al-Hadith
In the narration of Bishr bin Rafi', the words: "People have abandoned saying Ameen" are severely false, rather fabricated, because saying Ameen aloud (Ameen bil-jahr) is established from the Companions (Sahabah) and the Followers (Tabi'in). «والحمدلله»

Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah states
that Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr radi Allahu anhu and those praying behind him (the followers)
said "Ameen" so loudly that the mosque echoed. (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Adhan, Chapter: The Imam saying Ameen aloud)

Hadith Commentary:

Benefits and Issues:
When the imam completes Surah al-Fatihah, that is, when he says: "ghayril-maghdoobi 'alayhim wa la-d-dalleen," at that moment the imam and the angels say "Ameen," and the follower (muqtadi) should also say "Ameen" without delay at that time. In silent (sirr) prayers, by consensus, the imam, the follower, and the individual praying alone should say "Ameen" quietly. In audible (jahr) prayers, both the imam and the follower should say "Ameen" aloud. This is the position of Imam Shafi'i rahimahullah, Imam Ahmad rahimahullah, and the hadith scholars, and this is the truth.

According to Imam Malik rahimahullah, the imam does not say "Ameen" aloud in audible prayers. According to Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah, both the imam and the follower should say "Ameen" quietly. This is also one of the opinions of Imam Malik rahimahullah.

934. Commentary:
Imam Darqutni rahimahullah and Imam Bayhaqi have graded this hadith as hasan, and Imam Hakim has declared it sahih according to the conditions of Bukhari and Muslim. The reasoning from these ahadith is as follows: the follower (muqtadi) is obligated to follow the imam, and the command of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is: «صَلُّوا كَمَا رَأَيتُمُونِي أُصَلِّي» "Pray as you have seen me praying." [صحيح بخاري۔ حديث 631]
When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, while leading the prayer as imam, said "Ameen," then it is also established for the follower (muqtadi). [عن المعبود]
The narration of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu is evidence that "Ameen" should not be said loudly (shouting), but rather in a moderate voice, in which humility and submissiveness are expressed. Saying "Ameen" by shouting is contrary to humility and devotion, therefore doing so is not correct. Similarly, saying "Ameen" in the heart without uttering it aloud is also against the Sunnah.
