´Samurah said:` “I memorized two pauses in the prayer, a pause before reciting and a pause when bowing. ‘Imran bin Husain denied that, so they wrote to Al-Madinah, to Ubayy bin Ka’b, and he said that Samurah was speaking the truth.”
Explanation & Benefits

Benefit:
From this explanation, three pauses (brief silences) are understood.
The first pause is after the opening takbir (takbir tahrimah), during which the praise and glorification (hamd wa thana) is recited.
The second pause is at the end of Surah al-Fatihah (so that the imam may catch his breath, and also to distinguish between "Ameen" and the recitation of the Qur'an).
The third pause is after completing the recitation, before going into bowing (ruku‘); its purpose is also to allow the imam to catch his breath.
Some people say that the follower (muqtadi) should not recite Surah al-Fatihah silently along with the imam, but rather should recite it during one of these pauses.
However, this position is not correct, because the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not make these pauses for this purpose.
Therefore, these pauses were very brief.
Moreover, the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in) also did not make it a practice to recite Surah al-Fatihah during these pauses.
Therefore, the position of permitting the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah only during these pauses has no strong basis.
