´It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar was asked about gardens in which excrement was thrown.:` He said: "If it has been watered several times, then perform prayer there," and he attributed that to the Prophet.

Commentary: (1) (Haytan)
"Hayit" is the plural of "hayit," which literally means an enclosure or wall.
The Arabs would build enclosures around their gardens, so a garden was also called "hayit."
In this hadith, if "hayit" refers to an enclosure, then the meaning would be that trash and refuse were thrown in that empty space.
If "hayit" refers to a garden, then the purpose of throwing trash or dung, etc., would be to benefit from it as fertilizer.
(2)
The narration is weak, so the legal ruling mentioned in it cannot be established from this hadith.
However, it is permissible to pray on dry ground, because the entire earth has been made a place of prostration and pure for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) (and his ummah).
