Hadith 718

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاق الشَّافِعِيُّ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الْمَكِّيُّ ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، فَقُولُوا مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ " .
´It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:` "The Messenger of Allah said: 'When the Mu'adh-dhin calls the Adhan, say as he says.'"
Brief Explanation
1؎: However, if there is an excuse or necessity, then another person may say the takbir. Without necessity, for one person to give the adhan and another to say the iqamah is disliked (makruh); this is the opinion of Imam Shafi'i. According to Imam Abu Hanifah, it is not disliked (makruh).

Benefit:
In response to (Hayya ‘ala as-salah) and (Hayya ‘ala al-falah), one should say (La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah).
For all the remaining phrases, the words of the adhan itself should be repeated in response. See: (Sahih Muslim, Kitab as-Salat, Chapter: The Recommendation to Say What the Mu’adhdhin Says for Whoever Hears Him, etc., Hadith: 385).
