Commentary:
(1)
In the hadith, the word (حَزَاوِرَةٌ) appears, whose singular is (حَزوَرَ).
By this is meant that stage of age when the full strength of youth is attained.
At this age, the frivolity of adolescence has ended, therefore a person pays serious attention to every matter and can understand it well, and old age has not yet begun such that a person would be unable to bear the effort of memorizing and acting.
These noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) acquired knowledge of the religion at this age, which is the best age for this purpose.
(2)
The real purpose of knowledge is action, therefore the student should act upon the knowledge he acquires, so that the knowledge is also retained and its benefit, i.e., the pleasure of Allah, is also attained.
(3)
At the initial stage, only the rulings should be explained to the student.
The details of their evidences or the evidences of disputed issues, and the reason for preferring the stronger opinion, etc., should be mentioned at later stages.
(4)
The knowledge of tawhid (monotheism) and beliefs holds greater importance than the knowledge of acts of worship and transactions.
This is why, in the Makkan period, the Qur’anic surahs that were revealed placed greater emphasis on creed.
And in the Madinan period, mostly transactions were discussed.
(5)
With the increase in knowledge, there is an increase in faith.
(6)
The last sentence of the narration is evidence for the increase and decrease of faith.
