حدثنا محمد ابن أبي عمر العدنى عن سفيان بن عيينة قال: لم يزل أمر الناس معتدلا حتى نشأ فلان بالكوفة وربيعة الرأي بالمدينة وعثمان البتي بالبصرة فوجدناهم من أبنائ سبايا الأمم .
Sufyan bin Uyaynah says: The affairs of the people remained correct until such time that so-and-so appeared in Kufa, Rabee’ah al-Ra’y in Madinah, and Uthman al-Batti in Basra. We found them to be from among the children of women taken captive in war. 1
