Hadith 51

´It was narrated that Ans bin Malik said:` "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever gives up telling lies in support of a false claim, a palace will be built for him in the outskirts of Paradise. Whoever gives up argument when he is in the right, a palace will be built from him in the middle (of Paradise). And whoever had good behavior, a palace will be built for him in the highest reaches (of Paradise).'"

Commentary:
(1)
If any disagreement arises in a religious or worldly matter, efforts should be made to resolve it. Allah, the Exalted, has said:
﴿وَالصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ﴾ (an-Nisa: 128)
“Reconciliation is better.”

(2)
When a person realizes his mistake, he should recite this verse so that the disagreement may be resolved. This act is so great that, as a reward for it, a palace will be granted in Paradise.

(3)
In worldly matters, it is possible for a person to relinquish his rightful claim in order to end a dispute. This sacrifice, given for mutual agreement and unity, is a very great deed in the sight of Allah, the Exalted, and its reward is that such a person will receive a fine palace in the middle of Paradise.

(4)
A Muslim’s character should be of the highest standard so that daily affairs continue smoothly; by being adorned with the qualities of good character, tolerance, and gentleness, the possibilities of quarrels and disputes are eliminated altogether. The more such individuals there are in society, the greater the peace and security will be. Therefore, such a person holds a higher status than both of the aforementioned types of people, and in Paradise as well, he will attain a rank superior to theirs.

Note:

In the chain of narration, Salamah bin Wardaan al-Laythi al-Madani is a weak narrator.
The authentic wording is from the hadith of Abu Umamah radi Allahu anhu as follows: (I am a guarantor of a house in the outskirts of Paradise for the one who abandons jesting even if he is in the right, and a house in the middle of Paradise for the one who abandons lying even when joking, and a house in the highest part of Paradise for the one whose character is good) (Abu Dawood, no. 4800). For details, see al-Saheehah: 273.
