Hadith 4301

´It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:` “I have a Cistern, (as large as the distance) between the Ka’bah and Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem). (It is) whiter than milk, and its vessels are the number of the stars. I will be the Prophet with the most followers on the Day of Resurrection.”

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The Pond of Kawthar (Hawd al-Kawthar) will be a pond in the Plain of Gathering (Mahshar), from which the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will give water to his followers. Its expanse, in this hadith, is described as being from the Ka‘bah to Bayt al-Maqdis. In another hadith, it is mentioned as being equal to the distance from the city of ‘Adan in Yemen to the city of Eilah in Palestine {موجودہ بندرگاہ ایلات}, or from al-Madinah al-Munawwarah to Oman, which is located in the southeast of Saudi Arabia, or from al-Madinah al-Munawwarah to the city of Sana‘a in Yemen. {Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 4303 to 4304} The intention is not to precisely define its length and width, but rather to present a simple concept of its vastness.

➋ The Pond of Kawthar will be in the Plain of Gathering, but its water will come from Paradise (Jannah). The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) observed the River of Kawthar in Paradise. {Sahih al-Bukhari, Tafsir, Chapter: Surah ﴿Inna a‘taynaaka al-kawthar﴾, Hadith 4964}
