Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse: «هو أهل التقوى وأهل المغفرة» meaning "Only Allah should be feared and He alone is worthy to forgive sins" (Surah Al-Muddathir: 56), and said: "Allah, the Exalted, says: I am worthy that people should fear Me, and that no one should be associated with Me. So whoever refrains from associating anyone with Me, then I am worthy to forgive him."
In another chain, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) also says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said about this verse: «هو أهل التقوى وأهل المغفرة» that your Lord said: "I am the One who is worthy to be feared, no one should be associated with Me, and whoever refrains from associating anyone with Me, I am worthy to forgive him." 1.
