´It was narrated that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed by a man who was praying on a rock, and he went towards Makkah and stayed a while, then he left and found the man still praying as he had been. He stood up and clasped his hands, then said: “O people, you should observe moderation,” three times, “for Allah does not get tired (of giving reward) but you get tired.”
1؎ : From this hadith it is understood that following the Sunnah is superior, that is, to maintain constancy in prayer, fasting, and devotional acts to the extent that is established and transmitted from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). And there is no doubt that following the Sunnah is, in every circumstance, better and a source of blessing and light. The best method is that which is transmitted from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) regarding devotional acts, litanies, and supererogatory prayers (nawafil); one should be content with these very acts and also remain engaged with family, friends, and loved ones, just as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to do.
