حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ , حَدَّثَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ , أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ , يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَذَا ابْنُ آدَمَ وَهَذَا أَجَلُهُ عِنْدَ قَفَاهُ " , وَبَسَطَ يَدَهُ أَمَامَهُ , ثُمَّ قَالَ : " وَثَمَّ أَمَلُهُ " .
´Anas bin Malik narrated the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “This is the son of Adam, and this is his life span at his neck,’ then he spread his hand in front of him and said: ‘And there is his hope.”

Benefits and Issues:
A person's appointed time (ajal) is much closer than his hopes, therefore, it is necessary to prepare for its arrival.
Becoming engrossed in the world and becoming heedless of the Hereafter is extreme foolishness.

Hadith Commentary:

The lines that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) drew are as follows:

Through this parable, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) explained that a person harbors vast and extensive desires that even extend beyond his lifespan. Suddenly, death arrives and puts an end to the person, leaving his hopes unfulfilled, and he passes away before achieving them.
Shaytan has also employed this tactic. Allah the Exalted says:
"Shaytan makes them promises and fills them with hopes. But Shaytan’s promises are nothing but deception." ()

As a person grows older, Shaytan continues to instill undue aspirations in his heart, which increases the person’s greed and long hopes.
In pursuit of such desires, he commits various kinds of sins, until death suddenly seizes him and cuts off the chain of his vast and extensive wishes.

In any case, the promises and hopes that Shaytan gives to mislead a person are all nothing but deceit and trickery.
In contrast, Allah the Exalted has promised Paradise to the believers; that promise is absolutely true, and who can be more truthful than Allah the Exalted? Allahumma adkhilna al-jannata al-firdaws al-a‘la (Ameen).
