Hadith 4229

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ , وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ , عَنْ شَرِيكٍ , عَنْ لَيْثٍ , عَنْ طَاوُسٍ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا يُبْعَثُ النَّاسُ عَلَى نِيَّاتِهِمْ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “People will be resurrected (and judged) according to their intentions.”

Hadith Takhrij «تفرد بہ ابن ماجہ ، ( تحفة الأشراف : 13533 ، ومصباح الزجاجة : 1512 ) ، وقد أخرجہ : مسند احمد ( 2/392 ) ( صحیح ) » ( سند میں لیث بن أبی سلیم ضعیف ہیں ، لیکن جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کی آنے والی حدیث سے تقویت پاکر یہ صحیح ہے )

Benefits and Issues:

➊ The reward and punishment for deeds are given according to intentions.

➋ Some people commit sins and say: “Our intention is good.” This is incorrect. To knowingly commit a sin is itself included among bad intentions, even if a person invents some justification for it. For example: to steal with the intention of giving charity is still a sin; in fact, it is an even greater sin because in this case, a person considers evil to be good, and thus, instead of feeling ashamed and repenting, he takes pride in it.
