Hadith 4221

´It was narrated from Abu Bakr bin Abu Zuhair Ath-Thaqafi, that his father said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us in Nabawah” or Banawah – he (one of the narrators) said: “Nabawah is near Ta’if” – “And said: ‘Soon you will be able to tell the people of Paradise from the people of Hell.’ They said: ‘How O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘By praise and condemnation. You are Allah’s witnesses over one another.’”

Benefits and Issues:

A righteous person can only praise someone in whom he truly sees good qualities, because a God-fearing (muttaqi) person cannot flatter or engage in sycophancy.

A righteous, God-fearing person will only call someone bad if that person actually possesses bad habits, because he does not lie to defame anyone.

By “good praise” (or people’s good opinion), what is meant is not the opinion of all types of people, but rather the opinion of righteous people who adhere to monotheism (tawhid) and the Sunnah. Among them, the highest rank belongs to the noble Companions (Sahabah, radi Allahu anhum). Therefore, regarding the person about whom such great individuals hold a good opinion, he is certainly righteous and destined for Paradise.

One proof of the misguidance of the Khawarij, Mu'tazilah, Jahmiyyah, and others is that the Companions and the Followers (Tabi'in) declared their views to be incorrect and refuted them with full force.
