Hadith 4189

حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ , حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ , حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ , عَنْ الْحَسَنِ , عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ جُرْعَةٍ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ , مِنْ جُرْعَةِ غَيْظٍ كَظَمَهَا عَبْدٌ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ " .
´It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “There is no gulp that brings greater reward with Allah than a gulp of anger that a man swallows (suppresses), seeking thereby the Face of Allah.”

Commentary: 1.
The aforementioned narration has been declared weak by our esteemed researcher, whereas other scholars have declared it authentic. From the discussion among the scholars, the opinion affirming the authenticity of the hadith appears closer to correctness.

Therefore, despite the aforementioned narration being weak in its chain, it is actionable due to other supporting evidences and corroborations.

Drinking the draught of anger means restraining one’s anger and forgiving the one who has erred.

Allah Ta‘ala greatly loves this act because He Himself is Most Forgiving and Pardoning.

Many crimes are committed merely due to anger.
If people adopt forbearance and patience, crimes can be greatly reduced.
