Hadith 4171

´It was narrated that Abu Ayyub said:` “A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me but make it concise.’ He said: ‘When you stand to pray, pray like a man bidding farewell. Do not say anything for which you will have to apologize. And give up hope for what other people have.’”

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

➊ In admonition and advice, one should employ brevity or detail as appropriate to the situation.

➋ In order to attain the full benefit of prayer (salah), it is necessary that there be complete attention and concentration in the prayer. The heart should be fully directed towards Allah, and whatever is recited in the prayer should be recited with full understanding and with a state of humility and supplication before Allah. One should stand with etiquette and respect, avoiding unnecessary movements.

➌ When a person knows that he is about to depart from this world after a short while, he expresses utmost humility before Allah and supplicates with sincerity. Every prayer should be performed in this manner.

➍ When speaking, one should consider the consequences of what is being said, because once something has been uttered, it cannot be taken back. Sometimes, the harms of a single wrong statement can be limitless.

➎ In this world, people help one another, but the hearts of people are also in the hand of Allah; therefore, hope should not be placed in people, but in Allah. One should request from Him that He fulfill the need, in whatever way His mercy dictates.
