Hadith 4158

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ , حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ سورة التكاثر آية 8 , قَالَ الزُّبَيْرُ : " وَأَيُّ نَعِيمٍ نُسْأَلُ عَنْهُ , وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ الْأَسْوَدَانِ التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ " , قَالَ : أَمَا إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ .
´It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Zubair bin ‘Awwam that his father said:` “When the following was reveled: “Then on that Day you shall be asked about the delights (you indulged in, in this world)! [102:8] Zubair said: ‘What delights shall we be asked about? It is only the two black ones, dates and water.’ He said: ‘It is going to happen.’”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The blessings that seem insignificant to us, if we reflect, are also great blessings; therefore, it is necessary to express gratitude for them.
➋ Even the most meager food is a great blessing compared to remaining hungry.
➌ Be aware! This will certainly happen.
There are two possible meanings to this statement of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam):
One is that if today you do not have an abundance of blessings, soon you will have it—that is, there will be conquests and you will obtain abundant spoils, thus you will have many blessings available to you.
The second meaning could be that every person in this world has been given some wealth and possessions—some more, some less; therefore, on the Day of Resurrection, every person will be questioned about every blessing that was given to him. In our opinion, the second meaning is more correct.
And Allah knows best.

Explanation:
1:
On that Day, you will surely be questioned about the blessings (al-Takathur: 8)
2:
That is, you will be questioned about these two blessings as well,
and many other blessings will also be granted.
3:
The dates of Madinah were generally black,
and water was often referred to as black, so the Arabs used to call these two (al-aswadān) (the two black foods).
