´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:` “Utbah bin Ghazwan delivered a sermon on the pulpit and said: ‘I saw myself the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and we did not have any food to eat except the leaves of trees, until our gums hurt.’”

Benefits and Issues: ➊ The severe circumstances that befell the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) are a lesson in patience and steadfastness for us.
➋ The purpose of mentioning such circumstances from the pulpit is to make the listeners understand that now, when all kinds of blessings are available, one should express gratitude to Allah for them, and should not begin to complain over even a minor decrease in these blessings.

Abu Dharr (RA) said: Two are the Mut'as which were not permissible but only for us, i. e. temporary marriage with women and Tamattu' in Hajj.

Hadith Commentary:
Benefits and Issues: According to Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu, dissolving the intention of Hajj in order to perform Umrah and then performing Hajj again—that is, the practice of “mut‘at fasakh al-hajj”—was specific to that year, just as Umar radi Allahu anhu held, and is no longer permissible now. Similarly, the permission for temporary marriage (mut‘ah) with women existed during the Prophetic era, but ultimately this permission was abrogated. Nowadays, anyone who does not take a sacrificial animal (hady) with them should assume the state of ihram for Umrah only from the miqat and intend to perform Hajj al-tamattu‘, so that they may avoid this difference of opinion.
