´It was narrated that ‘Aishah said:` “The bed of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was made of leather, stuffed with fibers of date-palm trees.”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
The meaning is that the bedding was not made of fine cloth filled with wool or cotton, but rather it was a bedding made of leather, filled with the bark of the date-palm tree, which is hard and uneven.
However, due to the leather, its hardness was not felt as much.
The people of Arabia used to prepare leather in a simple manner, which was neither very expensive nor beautiful.
In this respect, a leather bedding is an example of utmost simplicity.

Hadith Commentary:
This was the bedding and pillow of the Noble Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Today, can most of those who claim to act upon the Sunnah be content with such a life, whose luxury, if seen, might even leave Pharaoh and Haman astonished?

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one hadith, Umar radi Allahu anhu relates his own observation that he saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam lying on a mat, and its marks were visible on his blessed body, and under his head was a leather pillow filled with palm fibers.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Libas, Hadith: 5843)
(2)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has narrated a hadith that a woman came to Aisha radi Allahu anhuma and saw the bedding of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which consisted of a folded sheet.
She sent a bedding for him that was filled with wool.
When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam came home and saw it, he said:
“Aisha! Return it. By Allah, if I wished, Allah the Exalted would turn these mountains into gold and silver for me.”

Explanation:
1:
This was the state of the simple life of that noble personality who was the leader of all the messengers.
How different is today’s life of luxury from the simple life of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
If only we Muslims would take this simplicity of his as our example,
and adopt it.
