Hadith 41

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ أَبِي شَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ حَدَّثَ عَنِّي بِحَدِيثٍ وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّهُ كَذِبٌ فَهُوَ أَحَدُ الْكَاذِبَيْنِ " .
´It was narrated that Mughirah bin Shu'bah said:` The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: '"Whoever narrates a Hadith from me thinking it to be false, then he is one of the two liars."

In these narrations, the punishment for fabricating lies against the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is mentioned, and in reality, lying against the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is worse than all other lies in the world.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues:
Whatever is attributed to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) becomes part of the religion and Shariah. However, the statement of anyone else does not become religion or Shariah. Therefore, attributing something to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is not so light and easy as it is to attribute something to someone else. There is not as much danger and fear in attributing a statement to someone else as there can be—and indeed should be—when attributing something to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
