´It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “The Hour will not begin until you fight people with small eyes and wide faces, as if their eyes are the pupils of locusts and as if their faces are hammered shields. They will be wearing shoes of hair, using leather shields and tying their horses to date-palm trees.”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊
From the first three hadiths, it is understood that there will be war with two nations.
One nation is characterized by their broad faces, flat noses, and small eyes.
The distinguishing feature of the other nation is wearing shoes made of hair.
In the second hadith, it is understood that both of these characteristics will be found in a single nation.
It is possible that both nations will join together in battle, and it is also possible that these are two branches of the same nation.
➋
Allamah Baydawi states:
The reason for likening their faces to shields is the flatness of their features and the roundness of their faces.
And by describing them as layered, what is meant is that their faces are thick and fleshy. (Fath al-Bari: 6/743)
➌
Hafiz Ibn Hajar radi Allahu anhu has narrated a statement of Muhammad bin ‘Abbad that the followers of Babak Khurrami used to wear shoes made of hair.
These were heretical people who declared unlawful things to be lawful.
During the era of Caliph Ma'mun al-Rashid, they gained significant strength.
They captured several regions, including Tabaristan and Rayy, etc.
Babak was killed during the reign of Caliph Mu'tasim in 222 AH.
➍
Hazrat Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu said:
By them are meant the people of Barz, i.e., the Kurds. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Virtues, Chapter: Signs of Prophethood in Islam, Hadith: 3591)
And Allah knows best.
