With this chain as well, it is narrated from Hassan bin Atiyyah in the same manner, with the addition: They (the Christians) will gather to fight the Muslims, at that time they will come under the leadership of the same banners, and under each banner there will be twelve thousand soldiers 1.
1؎ : From this hadith, it is also understood that the grandeur and dominion of the Christians (Nasara) will remain until the Day of Judgment, that is, until the time of Mahdi (alayhis salam). In another hadith, it is stated that the Hour will not be established until most of the people in the world are Christians. This hadith is a great proof of your prophethood, because this prophecy of yours has turned out to be absolutely true; for several centuries, the Christians have been continuously rising in power, and their religion is spreading in every country. In all four corners of the world, either their rule has been established, or kingdoms under their influence have been set up. And from this hadith, it is also understood that near the Day of Judgment, the king of the Muslims will join forces with one group of the Christians and fight against a third kingdom and will be victorious. Then, after a dispute over the cross, all the Christians will unite and, in agreement, confront the Muslims.
Narrated Dhu Mikhbar: Hassan ibn Atiyyah said: Makhul and Ibn Zakariyya went to Khalid ibn Madan, and I also went along with them. He reported a tradition on the authority of Jubayr ibn Nufayr. He said: Go with us to Dhu Mikhbar, a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. We came to him and Jubayr asked him about peace. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: You will make a secure peace with the Byzantines, then you and they will fight an enemy behind you.

Benefits and Issues: ➊ Reconciliation with the enemy can be made according to what is in the best interest. ➋ This hadith will be discussed in detail in the Book of Malahim. ➌ (Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Malahim, Hadith: 4292)

´It was narrated that Jubair bin Nufair said:` “Jubair said to me: ‘Let’s go to Dhu Mikhmar, who was a man from among the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ).’ So I went with them and he asked him about the peace treaty (with the Romans). He said: ‘I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: “The Romans will enter into a peace treaty with you, then you and they will fight one another as enemies, and you will be victorious; you will collect the spoils of war and be safe. Then you will come back until you stop in a meadow with many hillocks. A man from among the people of the Cross will raise the Cross and will say: ‘The Cross has prevailed.’ Then a man among the Muslims will become angry and will go and break the Cross. Then the Romans will prove treacherous (breaking the treaty) (and will gather) for the fierce battle.”

Benefits and Issues: ➊ There are various sects among the Christians who differ from one another. In different countries, there is a majority of different sects; therefore, Christians of one sect, being distressed by the oppression of Christians of another sect, may cooperate with Muslims. This is similar to how, in recent times, the Serbs and Croats of Yugoslavia could not live together, so Serbia and Croatia became separate countries, and due to opposition from the Serbs, the Croat Christians became supporters of the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the future, such a situation could arise in any major country as well. Or, Christians and Muslims could unite and fight together against a third country (followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.).
➋ The temporary reconciliation between Muslims and Christians cannot be permanent, because Christians harbor enmity towards Muslims in their hearts; therefore, when given the opportunity, they may take action against Muslims on the basis of even a trivial pretext.
➌ Even after making a peace treaty with non-Muslims, Muslims should remain vigilant and make complete arrangements for their defense.
➍ The mention of the Christian military campaign against Muslims has also passed in Hadith 4042.
