Hadith 4034

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ , حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا رَاشِدٌ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْحِمَّانِيُّ , عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ , عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ , عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ , قَالَ : أَوْصَانِي خَلِيلِي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ " لَا تُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا , وَإِنْ قُطِّعْتَ وَحُرِّقْتَ , وَلَا تَتْرُكْ صَلَاةً مَكْتُوبَةً مُتَعَمِّدًا , فَمَنْ تَرَكَهَا مُتَعَمِّدًا فَقَدْ بَرِئَتْ مِنْهُ الذِّمَّةُ , وَلَا تَشْرَبْ الْخَمْرَ , فَإِنَّهَا مِفْتَاحُ كُلِّ شَرٍّ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Darda’ that my close friend (ﷺ) advised me:` “Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut and burned. Do not neglect any prescribd prayer deliberately, for whoever neglects it deliberately no longer has the protection of Allah. And do not drink wine, for it is the key to all evil.”

Benefits and Issues:

Shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the greatest crime.
Therefore, it is necessary to avoid it even in the most severe circumstances.
➋
To sacrifice one’s life for the creed of Tawhid (the oneness of Allah) is a felicity.
➌
After shirk, the greatest sin is abandoning prayer (salah), which is tantamount to disbelief (kufr).

Intellect (‘aql) is a great blessing from Allah.
To squander this blessing by using intoxicating substances is a grave act of ingratitude.

Due to intoxication, a veil is cast over the intellect, making it easy to commit any sin.
Therefore, it is extremely necessary for a Muslim to abstain from every intoxicating thing.
