بَابُ : مَنْ رَأَى رُؤْيَا يَكْرَهُهَاChapter: One who has a dream that he dislikes
Hadith 3910

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , عَنْ الْعُمَرِيِّ , عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ رُؤْيَا يَكْرَهُهَا , فَلْيَتَحَوَّلْ وَلْيَتْفُلْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثًا , وَلْيَسْأَلِ اللَّهَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا , وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ مِنْ شَرِّهَا " .
´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “If anyone of you sees a dream that he dislikes, let him turn over and spit dryly to his left three times, and ask Allah for its good and seek refuge from its evil.”

Benefits and Issues:

An evil dream is from the mischief of Shaytan, therefore the remedy for the distress caused by it is to recite (A‘udhu billah – I seek refuge with Allah).

The wisdom in spitting lightly to the left is that the left side is associated with Shaytan; he comes from this direction and casts whisperings into the heart.
➌
Changing one’s side is an outward alteration in physical state. In this act, there is an expression of hope and request to Allah for His mercy, that Allah may change the state of distress and grant tranquility of heart.
