Brief Explanation
1؎ : Thus, when someone sees the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in his (true) appearance and form, as is mentioned in the authentic hadith, then his dream is true and indeed he has seen you, because Satan does not have the power to assume your form. However, seeing you in a dream is not equal to seeing you while awake in every respect. For example, seeing you in a dream does not make a person a Companion (Sahabi). Similarly, the scholars say that if one sees you in a dream commanding something contrary to the Shari‘ah, then this is not a proof; following the Shari‘ah is necessary. For instance, it is narrated that a person saw the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in a dream commanding him to drink wine. He awoke astonished. A scholar informed him that this was his own error, for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has forbidden drinking wine. Likewise, the scholars say that if someone sees the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in a different form in a dream, for example, in the form of a clean-shaven man, then it is as if he has not seen you, and such a dream is not valid. And it is a matter of consensus that if any command from the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in a dream is contrary to the apparent Shari‘ah, then it is not permissible to act upon it. It will be said that the dreamer was deceived. When Satan can deceive a person to such an extent while awake, then his interference in dreams is even more likely.
