Benefits and Issues:
The meaning of uttering these words at a time of distress is that I place my hope in Allah’s mercy, that He alone will remove my hardship.
Shirk (associating partners with Allah) is most commonly committed at times of distress, when people request the servants of Allah to solve their problems and remove their difficulties.
It is imagined that deceased saints, upon receiving offerings, will fulfill our needs.
However, the true distinction of a monotheist’s (muwahhid’s) belief in tawhid is also manifested at such times—when he abandons all others and expresses his hardship and pain only before Allah, and hopes for relief solely from Him.

1525. Commentary: The secret in this supplication is that the stronger a servant’s connection and relationship with his Creator and Master, the more he will remain protected from worldly anxieties. It is impossible to attain any comfort or tranquility by severing this connection. And those who, despite their disobedience, consider themselves to be in comfort are deluded. In reality, Allah has only granted them respite, and in the Hereafter, there is nothing for them. And we ask Allah for well-being (al-‘afiyah).
