´It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said:` "The Messenger of Allah (saas) often used to say: 'Allahumma thabbit qalbi 'ala dinika [O Allah, make my heart steadfast in (adhering to) Your religion].' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Do you fear for us when we have believed in you and in (the Message) that you have brought?' He said: 'Hearts are between two of the fingers of the Most Merciful, and He controls them.'" (Hasan)Al-A'mash (one of the narrators) indicated with his fingers.

Hadith Takhrij«تفرد بہ ابن ماجہ ، ( تحفة الأشراف : 1673 ، ومصباح الزجاجة : 1343 ) ، وقد أخرجہ : سنن الترمذی/القد ر 7 ( 2140 ) ( صحیح ) » ( سند میں یزید الرقاشی ضعیف راوی ہیں ، لیکن دوسرے طریق سے یہ صحیح ہے )
1؎: And A‘mash was a great Imam and a great memorizer (hafiz) of hadith; he was neither from the mujassimah nor the mushabbihah, rather he was among the true Ahl al-Sunnah who, unlike the Jahmiyyah and the Mu‘tazilah, did not interpret (ta’wil) Allah’s fingers, but took “finger” to mean finger itself. However, the Lord Himself does not resemble any created being, nor is anything of His—such as eye, shin (saq), or finger—like that of the creation. And if someone asks us, “What is Allah’s finger like?” we will say, “What is His essence (dhat) like?” If he can answer that, then we will answer his question as well. In another narration from Ibn ‘Abbas radi Allahu anhuma, it is stated that Allah Ta‘ala placed His little finger (khinsir) on Mount Tur, and it was shattered to pieces. From this, it is also known that Allah Ta‘ala truly has fingers, and metaphorical meanings are not intended.
Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Receiving the ability to remain steadfast upon guidance after attaining it is a very great blessing from Allah.
➋ In the present era, new trials (fitan) are emerging. Falsehood is being presented in an embellished manner, and the texts of the Qur’an and Hadith are being used with incorrect interpretations to support erroneous positions. In these circumstances, not only the general public but even the scholars need to continuously seek help from Allah.
➌ Guidance and misguidance are in the hand of Allah; therefore, one should request guidance only from Him.
➍ The words regarding Allah’s hand, fingers, etc., that have appeared in the Qur’an and Hadith must be believed in, but only Allah knows their true reality.

Anas reported that God’s messenger often said, “O Thou who turnest the hearts about, establish my heart in Thy religion.” Anas said, “Prophet of God, do you fear for us who believe in you and in your message?” He replied, “Yes. The hearts are between two of God’s fingers and He turns them about as He wills.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Hadith Authentication: The chain of narration for this report is weak. ● The explicit statement of hearing (sama‘) from Abu Mu‘awiyah al-Darir is present in Musnad Ahmad [112/3ح 12107], but Sulaiman bin Mihran al-A‘mash is a mudallis, and this narration is from «عن», therefore this chain is weak. ● There are numerous supporting narrations (shawahid) for the marfu‘ hadith in this report, by which it is hasan sahih, but for the phrase “Do you fear for us?” there is no authentic (sahih) or hasan supporting narration. «والله أعلم»
