1؎: Because servitude demands that a person ask from his Master; refraining from asking displays arrogance, pride, and self-sufficiency. A person should ask his Master for every need, and whenever any hardship befalls him, he should supplicate to his Master. We are but beggars at His door, day and night we keep asking from Him, and if we suffer even a slight distress, we are unable to show patience and immediately begin to supplicate to our Master. We are in need of Him at all times, and we are paupers at the threshold of His bounty.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues: (1) Supplication (dua) is an act of worship because in it the servant expresses his poverty and helplessness before Allah, and, acknowledging Allah’s greatness and power, requests the fulfillment of his needs from Him.
(2) Some researchers have classified the aforementioned narration as hasan (good). For details, see: (al-Sahihah no. 2654). Therefore, not making supplication is turning away from worship, and thus becomes a cause of Allah’s displeasure.
(3) It is necessary to observe those etiquettes in supplication (dua) which have been mentioned in the hadiths.
