Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

By “seventy or one hundred times” is meant, firstly, the specification of this quantity—that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would sometimes seek forgiveness one hundred times and sometimes seventy times. Additionally, from these ahadith, it may also be understood that seeking forgiveness in abundance is intended.
And Allah knows best.

Any suitable words may be used for seeking forgiveness, for example:
(Astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh)
or the words mentioned in hadith 3814.
