Hadith Takhrij «
Brief Explanation
1؎: The one who makes [the bird] fly is called a shaytan because he is heedless of and indifferent to Allah, and the bird is called a shaytan because it became the cause of the flyer’s heedlessness. Keeping birds for any permissible purpose is allowed; however, if it is merely for amusement and becomes a cause of wasting time, then it should be avoided. Any pastime to which undue importance is given beyond the permissible limit, and on which time and wealth are wasted, is prohibited. Just as pigeon flying is a futile and dangerous pastime, so too is kite flying, and it is necessary to avoid it as well.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

It is permissible to keep birds for a lawful purpose; however, if it is merely for amusement and becomes a cause of wasting time, then one should avoid it.

Every difficulty or preoccupation that is given undue importance beyond the permissible limit, and upon which time and wealth are wasted, is prohibited.

Just as pigeon flying (kabootar bazi) is a futile and dangerous pastime, so too is kite flying (patang bazi). It is also necessary to avoid this.

The reason for calling the pigeon “Shaytan” (devil) is that due to its harms, Shaytan is pleased.
