Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊
If a person causes harm, it is permissible to speak ill of him, but to declare other people associated with him as bad is a lie, which is a major sin.
➋
In our society, it is common that a certain opinion becomes widespread about some tribes or professions. Even if a person does not possess that fault, he is suspected or mocked merely because he belongs to that tribe or profession. This is a bad habit.
➌
Satire (hijā’), that is, criticizing someone in poetry, is an evil act. However, it is permissible to satirize disbelievers who are at war with Muslims, provided that no Muslim is affected by it.
➍
A tribe or family is a means of mutual identification. Honor and disgrace are related to deeds, not to family.
➎
Considering one’s own tribe as inferior and claiming to be a member of another well-known tribe is a major sin.
➏
When a person associates himself with another tribe, it is as if he is admitting that he was not born to the one who is considered his real father, but rather to someone from the other tribe. The result of this is that his mother is proven to be unchaste. This clarifies the evil of such an act.
