Hadith 375

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَهْلُهُ يَغْتَسِلُونَ مِنْ إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ ، وَلَا يَغْتَسِلُ أَحَدُهُمَا بِفَضْلِ صَاحِبِهِ " .
´It was narrated that 'Ali said:` "The Prophet and his wife would take a bath from one vessel, but neither of them would have a bath with the leftover water of the other." (Daif)

Brief Explanation
1؎ : Apparently, performing ritual bath (ghusl) with water left over by another person is permissible; however, the prohibition that has been reported is of a discouraging (tanzihi) nature, meaning that refraining from it is preferable and better.

Commentary:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission.
The correct view is that husband and wife may perform ritual bath (ghusl) together, and they may also perform ritual bath using the water left over by each other.
