Hadith 3727

´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said:` "Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah, bringing Rahmah (i.e., rain and breezes), or destruction. But ask Allah for its goodness, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."

Benefits and Issues:

Air is one of Allah’s great blessings, without which human life is not possible. However, this very air, by Allah’s command, can become a storm and hurricane, causing destruction.

Mercy and punishment are in Allah’s control; therefore, one should have hope in Him and fear Him alone.

On the occasion of strong winds and storms, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to supplicate in this manner: (Allahumma inni as’aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bihi wa a’udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi) (Sahih Muslim, Salat al-Istisqa, Chapter: Seeking refuge when seeing wind and clouds, and rejoicing at rain, Hadith: 899)
“O Allah! I ask You for its goodness, the goodness within it, and the goodness with which it has been sent. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil with which it has been sent.”

Just as it is sinful to curse human beings, likewise, it is wrong to curse animals and inanimate creation.
